How sound is the hadith: "Reduce your semen, for in it lies life"?

This statement has not been attributed to the Prophet, peace be upon him, nor to his companions, nor to reputable scholars. Rather, this meaning is attributed to some early practitioners of medicine, such as the saying of Abu Ali Ibn Sina: "Make your food once every day... and beware of eating before digesting food, and preserve your semen as much as you can, for it is... the water of life poured into wombs."
