Is it permissible to sponsor orphaned Kosovars in homes without changing the orphan’s name, and is the sponsored orphan considered like a child to the sponsor, taking into account the fatwa of one of the sheikhs prohibiting adoption in Islam?

Adoption is the attribution of an orphan to his adoptive parent as if he were his biological son. Islam has forbidden it due to its implications of lineage confusion, rendering lawful things unlawful, and unlawful things lawful. It has also prohibited claiming a lineage other than one's father. As for sponsoring an orphan, it involves caring for and nurturing him without attributing him to the sponsor. Islam has encouraged it, making it a cause for accompanying the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, in Paradise, while stressing the importance of separating adult orphans from non-mahram (definition) women and avoiding any corruption that may arise from their mixing.
