Is a votive offering distributed in the same way as an Udhiyah (sacrificial animal), and is it permissible for the one who made the vow to eat from his votive offering?

A vow of obedience is to be expended in the way the person making the vow intended. If he intended it for the poor and needy, then the sheep must be distributed among them. If he intended it for relatives and his household, he may partake of it as one of them, unless custom dictates otherwise, or he intended to exclude himself. If he did not specify a particular recipient and made the vow in general terms, then its expenditure is the same as that of charity, for the poor and needy, and he may not eat from it unless it is customary in his country to allow eating from a vow. In this case, custom specifies the portion permissible for him.
