How do the Jahmiyyah call upon Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, while they deny Him names and attributes to prevent the multiplicity of eternals and to avoid Allah resembling His creation?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The Jahmiyyah believe that the names of Allah -the Exalted- are mere appellations that do not indicate attributes inherent in His essence. Thus, they describe Him as Knower without knowledge, Hearer without hearing, and so on. They consider the belief that these names are mere words that do not include attributes or meanings. It is narrated that one of the Bedouins responded to Jahm bin Safwan with poetic verses, in which he clarified the invalidity of his doctrine, and that these verses were the cause for many people to abandon the doctrine of the Jahmiyyah.
