Is it permissible for a pilgrim in a state of Ihram to remove his Ihram garments and wear his normal clothes for sleep, or to apply perfume and anoint himself with الطيب (fragrance), or to sit next to his wife who is also in a state of Ihram and touch her hand, and what are the conditions of Ihram?

It is not permissible for a pilgrim in a state of ihram to wear tailored clothes or touch perfume until after the first release from ihram. However, it is permissible for the pilgrim to remove the ihram garments after the first release or to change them. There is no harm in sitting next to his wife or touching her hand as long as he does not intend to seek enjoyment from it. It is forbidden for a pilgrim in a state of ihram to engage in foreplay with desire (such as thighing, kissing, and touching) before both releases from ihram. Preliminaries to intercourse, such as kissing and caressing with desire, are included in the meaning of "rafath" (obscene or sinful talk/acts). Islam and intention are conditions for the validity of ihram.
