What is the ruling on the fast of one who intended to fast in Ramadan while resident, then traveled during the day?

"Whoever intended to fast while a resident, then traveled during the day, whether voluntarily or involuntarily, is permitted to break their fast and must make up the day. This is the view of the Hanbalis and the more sound of the two narrations from Ahmad. Al-Muzani and others among the Shafi'is also adopted this view, citing the Almighty's saying: 'So whoever among you witnesses the month, let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other days' (Quran 2:185) and the action of Anas ibn Malik, may Allah be pleased with him. As for the majority of scholars, they held that it is not permissible for him to break his fast, and he must complete the day, giving precedence to the ruling of residency."
