What is the ruling on saying: "My Lord, has love killed lovers, while Your love has given me life?"

This statement is true; vain infatuation can deaden the heart even if the body does not die, whereas the love of Allah revives and illuminates the heart. Ibn al-Qayyim mentioned that the knowledge of Allah brings love, illuminates the heart, and removes worries and sorrows, because "there is no sorrow with Allah." True joy is joy in Allah, His grace, and His mercy, and this is what people of high aspirations strive for.

He divided hearts into three types: 1. The sound heart (Qalb Salim): This is the means of a servant's salvation on the Day of Resurrection. It is free from desires and doubts that contravene Allah's command, and from all polytheism towards other than Allah. 2. The dead heart: This is the heart that worships other than Allah, and is controlled by whims, desires, and ignorance. 3. The sick heart: This is the heart that combines the life of faith in Allah with the ailment of desires, and it is dominated by whichever of these two elements prevails.
