Is it permissible to supplicate by saying: "O Allah, show me the status of so-and-so, may Allah have mercy on him, in Your presence"?

The majority of scholars hold the view that it is permissible for a Muslim to supplicate for whatever he wishes, as long as it does not involve sin or breaking ties of kinship. There is no known impediment to supplicating for the vision of a specific person in a dream. This is supported by what was narrated from Ahmad ibn al-Jallad, that he saw Ahmad ibn Hanbal in his dream after his passing.
