When did the Bid'ah of Irja' first appear?

The Murji'ah are a sect that appeared in Kufa at the end of the first century Hijri. The first to speak about Irja' was Hammad ibn Abi Sulayman. Irja' means 'delay' or 'postponement', because they postpone action from faith, or because they give hope to the disobedient believer.

Abu al-Hasan al-Ash'ari divided the Murji'ah into ten sects, the most important of which are:

1. The Jahmiyyah (Jahm ibn Safwan): Faith is merely the heart's affirmation and its knowledge of God. 2. The Karramiyyah (Muhammad ibn Karram): Faith is affirmation by the tongue without the heart. 3. The Murji'at al-Fuqaha (Abu Hanifa and his followers): Faith is conviction by the heart and utterance by the tongue; it neither increases nor decreases, and they do not consider the actions of the limbs to be part of faith.
