What is the reply to the group that accepts the Sunnah as a source of legislation for acts of worship only, and rejects it in worldly matters, citing the incident of pollinating the palm trees?
The story of the pollination of the palm trees shows that experimental worldly matters which are not related to legislation do not fall within the mission of the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, as a conveyor from his Lord. Such matters are subject to experimentation and research. This differs from matters related to what is lawful and unlawful, and legal rulings, which are at the core of his function, peace and blessings be upon him. Those who try to restrict religion to devotional rituals and isolate it from various aspects of life are wicked disbelievers, because Allah revealed Islam as a ruler and organizer of people's lives.
