If divorce has occurred and you are unable to convince your mother to approve the return of your wife, then you must obey your mother, unless your soul yearns for this woman and your heart is attached to her, and you fear being tempted by her. In that case, it is permissible for you to take her back, even if your mother is displeased. Divorce is permissible but disliked if it is without a reason. It is permissible for a man to take back his wife if she is within her (waiting period) without a new contract, but if the iddah has expired, a new contract is necessary.
