Is the ghusl of an elderly person who intended purification for prayer, but did not intend purification from janabah, valid?

Praise be to Allah for guiding this person before his death, and we ask Allah to keep him steadfast. Abandoning prayer is one of the greatest sins, but one who abandons it out of laziness is not considered a disbeliever by the majority of scholars. He is not required to perform ghusl unless he is in a state of major ritual impurity (janabah). If he performs ghusl with the intention of making prayer permissible when he desires to pray, that is sufficient for him.
