Is it permissible for one who has blasphemed while not in a state of janabah to perform ghusl with the intention of entering Islam and purifying from both major and minor ritual impurity? And is it permissible for a disbeliever who is in a state of janabah to perform one ghusl with the intention of entering Islam and purifying from janabah, or does he need two ghusls, and with which ghusl should he begin?

The scholars are unanimous that insulting religion is an act of disbelief in Allah and is considered apostasy from Islam. The evidence for this is Allah's saying: "And if you ask them, they will surely say, 'We were only indulging in idle talk and amusement.' Say, 'Is it in Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were mocking?' Make no excuse; you have disbelieved after your belief." Whoever commits this act must perform ghusl (ritual bath), pronounce the two Shahadas (testimony of faith), repent to Allah, and engage in much istighfar (seeking forgiveness) and righteous deeds, for the door of repentance is open for all sins. Scholars have differed regarding the obligation of ghusl for a disbeliever or an apostate upon embracing Islam. Some, like the Hanbalis and Malikis, have made it obligatory, citing prophetic traditions, while others, like the Hanafis and Shafi'is, have considered it merely recommended. The preponderant view is that ghusl is obligatory, and this ghusl suffices for janabah (major ritual impurity) if present.
