What is the ruling on preparing food for the deceased and distributing it to relatives and neighbors some time after their death, with a request for proof?

Scholars have agreed on the permissibility of giving charity on behalf of the deceased, citing as evidence several hadiths, including the hadith from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that a man asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "My mother died suddenly, and I think that if she had been able to speak, she would have given charity. Will she have a reward if I give charity on her behalf?" He replied: "Yes."
