What is the ruling on giving out one ton of wheat as expiation for the deceased for what he forgot or fell short in his prayers, after reciting upon him?

Giving out food as charity to the poor with the intention of dedicating its reward to the deceased is a good deed. However, reciting the Quran over the food before it is given out has no basis. The belief that this charity compensates for the prayers missed by the deceased has no evidence; rather, it is a charity from which the deceased is hoped to receive reward.
