Is the use of gold as an adornment for men forbidden only for the performance of the obligatory prayer?

The use of gold as an adornment for men is forbidden by the consensus of the Ummah, due to the prohibitions mentioned in the authentic Sunnah. Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said regarding silk and gold: "Indeed, these two are forbidden for the males of my Ummah." And Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "The wearing of silk and gold is forbidden for the males of my Ummah and permitted for their females."
