Is looking at forbidden things considered adultery, and what is its expiation?

Looking at forbidden things is a metaphorical fornication that does not necessitate a prescribed punishment (hadd), but it is one of the greatest causes of temptation and corruption of hearts. Its expiation is sincere repentance, which involves abandoning the sin, regretting it, resolving not to return to it, and concealing it. Lowering the gaze protects one's private parts and rectifies the heart. This is achieved by seeking Allah's help, striving against oneself, avoiding temptations, strengthening faith, and frequently seeking forgiveness and supplicating.
