Is it permissible to pray behind an imam who does not recite the Qur’an well, is not a jurist, has bad manners, does not accept advice, and threatens the worshippers, after informing the relevant authorities without success?

It is prescribed for the ma'mum (follower) to prompt the imam (leader) if he makes a mistake in recitation. The imam should not feel embarrassed by this, as the Companions used to prompt the imams during the time of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. If the imam errs in Al-Fatiha by omitting one or two verses, the prayer becomes invalid, based on the Prophet's saying: "There is no prayer for one who does not recite the Opening of the Book (Fatihat al-Kitab)." One whose own prayer is not valid cannot be followed. However, if the error is outside Al-Fatiha or a linguistic mistake (لحن) that does not alter the meaning, the prayer is valid. If the linguistic mistake in Al-Fatiha changes the meaning, the prayer is invalid, and the prayer of those following him also becomes invalid. The imam must learn what validates his prayer, and the proficient reciter should be given precedence in leading the prayer. It is advised to deal with the imam gently and kindly and to offer him advice.
