What should I do regarding my participation in the Al-Raid Fund at the Saudi American Bank, after learning that some scholars have deemed it permissible while Sheikh Al-Osaimi has forbidden it? Should I continue in it or not, and what should I do with the profit if the answer is in the negative?

It is not possible to issue a fatwa regarding the nature of the aforementioned fund, whether it is forbidden or permissible, due to lack of knowledge about it. If the questioner relied in his dealings on a fatwa from trustworthy scholars, then there is no blame on him for continuing, even if another fatwa of prohibition is issued, as long as those who permitted it do not retract their statement. For the common person, his madhhab (school of thought) is what the trustworthy scholar issues to him. If scholars differ, he should adopt the opinion of whoever he trusts in their knowledge and piety. A Muslim is not obligated to imitate a specific scholar in everything he says, as stated by Ibn Taymiyyah and Ibn Abd al-Barr. While this is permissible, piety dictates avoiding anything whose permissibility is doubtful, based on the Prophet, peace be upon him, saying: "Leave what makes you doubt for what does not make you doubt."
