What is the ruling concerning prayer and fasting in the presence of multiple vaginal discharges that are difficult to distinguish due to obsessive thoughts, knowing that these discharges have distinct odors?

The questioner, a sister, is afflicted with severe waswasah (obsessive whispering). Distinguishing manī (spermatic fluid) from madhī (pre-ejaculatory fluid) and other discharges is easy. As long as she theoretically knows the characteristics of both madhī and manī, then if she doubts whether the discharge is manī or madhī, she is not obligated to perform ghusl (ritual bath); rather, she may choose between wuḍūʾ (ablution) and ghusl. The more cautious approach is for her to wash whatever part of her body and clothes was affected. As for fasting, it is not invalidated even if manī is discharged due to thought, and similarly, according to some jurists, if it is discharged due to looking. We advise her not to succumb to waswasah and to divert her thoughts from anything that incites arousal.
