To what extent is the hadith sound: "The Most Merciful, عز وجل, says to David, عليه السلام: 'Pass before Me.' David says: 'O Lord, I fear my sin will make me slip.' He says: 'From behind Me.' He says: 'O Lord, I fear my sin will make me slip.' He says: 'Take hold of My foot.' So he takes hold of His foot, عز وجل, and passes"? And is it among the hadiths of attributes? And what is the meaning of "from behind Me" mentioned therein?

The narration attributed to Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, concerning the Most Merciful's saying to David, peace be upon him, on the Day of Resurrection, "Take hold of My Foot," has no known chain of transmission. Al-Suyuti mentioned it without a chain of transmission. A similar narration was reported in "Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah" from the words of Mujahid, but with a weak chain of transmission, which includes Layth ibn Abi Sulaym. Furthermore, Mujahid used to question the People of the Book, and it appears he received it from the Isra'iliyyat (Judeo-Christian traditions), thus it cannot be used as proof regarding the attributes of Allah, the Almighty. A sound narration has been reported from Mujahid, from Ubayd ibn Umayr, but it does not contain the details of the aforementioned narration; rather, it states that David, peace be upon him, will say, "My sin, my sin," when commanded to approach, until he reaches a place known only to Allah.
