What can I do to convince my parents to approve my marriage to a girl who embraced Islam, given that their refusal is based on their fear that the marriage will affect my studies, even though I believe I can reconcile the two?
May Allah reward you for your effort in introducing Islam to this girl and for being the cause of her embracing it. You have done well by resolving to marry her, thereby protecting yourself and her from sin. There is no doubt that marriage is among the good deeds that should be hastened, as it contains many benefits for this world and the Hereafter. For one who fears falling into temptation, marriage becomes obligatory. If your father prefers delaying marriage but does not command you to do so, then the decision is yours. Even if he were to insist that you not marry until you complete your studies, you would not be obligated to obey him in that, because obedience is due only in what is good and permissible, and anything that results in harm to the child is not considered permissible. If the girl has a Muslim guardian, he is the one who should marry her off. If there is no Muslim guardian, then the Sharia judge should marry her off. Otherwise, she should appoint a trustworthy Muslim man as her representative.
