What is the ruling on exposing oneself to danger for the sake of knowledge, and what is the ruling on one who dies as a result?

This is a novel issue, and the original principle for it is that a jurisprudential opinion should be issued by the Fiqh Academies. What can be said is that it is permissible to participate in such matters if a considerable benefit is intended, safety is most likely to be achieved, and all efforts are expended to secure it. This is because some jurists have stipulated the consideration of the strong probability of safety in permitting exposure to danger. Some scholars have differed on this principle, not permitting it even if safety is highly probable. The prohibition of such acts is based on the occurrence of harm, and what is considered in ruling on the existence of harm is the strong probability, and certainty is not a condition.
