Are unanswered supplications in this world fulfilled in Paradise, or are they delayed to relieve one of the hardships of the Day of Resurrection, based on the saying of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him: "No Muslim supplicates to Allah with a supplication that does not involve sin or breaking ties of kinship, but Allah will give him one of three: either He will hasten his supplication for him in this world, or He will store it up for him in the Hereafter, or He will avert from him an equivalent amount of evil"?

The hadith is explicit that one of the ways supplications are answered is by storing them for the supplicant in the Hereafter. It is not necessary for the answer to be the attainment of exactly what was requested; rather, Allah may grant something better than that. Hadith commentators have explained the storing of supplications for the Hereafter as meaning that the requested item itself, or its equivalent, or something better than it, or its reward and substitute, will be granted. Among the forms of answering is the expiation of sins. The supplication of a believer is not rejected, but it may be delayed for a wisdom, or compensated with something more suitable for him, either immediately or later. It could also be by attaining exactly what was requested at its time or at another time, or by averting an evil instead of it, or by granting another good, or by storing it for a day when its reward is more needed, or by expiating sins commensurate with what was supplicated.
