Must she make up for the day on which light brown discharge appeared, resembling a pen mark on the underwear? And is her fasting valid despite her suffering from excessive flatulence and the sensation of water entering her anus during istinja' (washing after defecation or urination) and wudu' (ablution)?

Scholars have differed regarding yellowish and brownish discharges (including brown streaks) after purification and before the passing of the minimum period of purity (15 days). The preponderant opinion is that these are not menstruation, and thus, fasting and prayer are valid with them.

If menstrual blood returns before the passing of the minimum period of purity and continues until the total of the blood and the purity exceeds 15 days, then this is irregular bleeding (istihadah) and not menstruation, because the period of purity did not separate the two bloods by 15 days. The ruling of menstruation is not applied to the intervening purity in this case.

However, if the total does not exceed 15 days, then both bloods and the intervening purity between them are considered menstruation (the "pulling" approach).

Frequent flatulence, if its emission is confirmed, invalidates ablution. Mere doubt is not to be heeded. Cleansing with water (istinja') does not affect fasting. One should not pay attention to obsessive thoughts regarding purity.
