Is it permissible for a woman to tie her fallopian tubes (tubal ligation) at the request of her husband, who does not want more children and threatens to marry another woman who commits to not having children?

If the husband's action will lead to a complete cessation of procreation, then it is not permissible except out of necessity. A large number of children does not justify this, and a wife owes no obedience to her husband in an act of disobedience to the Creator, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "There is no obedience to a creature in disobedience to Allah, the Mighty and Majestic." Temporarily halting procreation is permissible by mutual consent of the spouses, if there is a need. The wife is advised to pray for her husband and to seek the mediation of people of knowledge and virtue to convince him.
