Is it permissible to take out a loan from usurious banks to buy a house and get married, in order to avoid falling into what is forbidden (haram), especially in light of the absence of an Islamic alternative and the high costs of rent?

The answer

Usury (Riba) is one of the gravest major sins, and Allah has threatened those who commit it with war. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, cursed the one who consumes it, the one who feeds it, the one who writes it down, and its two witnesses. A single dirham of usury is more severe in the sight of Allah than thirty-six acts of adultery. Need for marriage or housing does not permit usury. Rather, it is only permitted by extreme necessity for which no permissible alternative exists. The questioner must be patient and pious, for Allah Almighty provides a way out for the pious and sustains them from where they do not expect.
