What is the ruling on honoring parents who oppress their children and do not stand by them, and is their supplication answered in such a case?

Disobedience to parents (ʿUqūq al-wālidayn) is forbidden and is considered one of the major sins. Raising one's voice at parents and speaking harshly to them is forbidden, let alone striking them. Among the punishments for disobedience to parents is Allah's displeasure with the disobedient child, and swift punishment in this world. What is obligatory is to repent to Allah for disobedience, and that is by abandoning the sin, regretting it, and resolving not to return to it. One must also seek forgiveness from the parents, strive to be dutiful and kind to them, humble oneself before them, and address them with politeness, gentleness, humility, and reverence.
