What is your guidance to a mosque imam who forgets some verses during recitation and is prompted by the worshippers, which makes him feel bored with the imamate: Should he remain in the imamate or resign?

Error and forgetfulness are inherent to human nature. Allah has lifted accountability for them from this Ummah, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Lifted from my Ummah are error, forgetfulness, and what they are compelled to do." And as Allah Almighty says: "Our Lord, do not take us to task if we forget or make a mistake." It has been authentically reported that Allah said: "I have done so." Forgetfulness of memorized material often arises from lack of revision, like a tied camel that, if not regularly attended to, will wander off. Among the causes of forgetfulness are also sins. Imam Al-Shafi'i said: "I complained to Waki' about my poor memory, and he advised me to abandon sins... for the light of Allah is not granted to a sinner." Forgetfulness can also occur due to the sin of others, as happened to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, when the Quran became confused for him due to the ablution of some of the worshipers. Thus, it is even more likely to occur due to the sin of the reciter. Therefore, it is recommended to continuously revise, fear Allah, and supplicate with: "O Allah, remind me of what I have forgotten, preserve for me what You have taught me, and increase me in knowledge."
