It is permissible, from a perspective, to take a young man as a friend and to love him in principle. However, this love must be regulated by the legitimate Islamic controls to avoid falling into forbidden adoration and its dire consequences. If one fears that the matter will transgress the Sharia, then they must distance themselves to block the means (to sin) and to seek the safety of their religion and honor.
