What is the ruling on true love at seventeen and forming a relationship with a teenage girl?
Love between young men and women is of two types: The first is chaste love that leads to marriage if its means are available, otherwise one turns away from it, in fulfillment of the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: “There is nothing like marriage for two who love each other.” The second is forbidden passion stemming from hearts empty of the love of Allah, and it is considered a difficult-to-cure spiritual illness, especially the love of beardless youths, which is deviance and ugliness. The cure for this illness lies in lowering the gaze, staying away from provocations, fasting, and marrying a religious woman, as stated in the Hadith: “A woman is married for four things: for her wealth, for her beauty, for her lineage, and for her religion. So, succeed with the religious woman, may your hands be soiled.”
