Is expiation incumbent upon one who swore an oath by triple divorce not to play football, and what is this expiation?

The majority of scholars, including the four Madhhabs, are of the opinion that an oath sworn by divorce (talaq (definition)) results in the divorce taking effect if the oath is broken. So, if you swore by triple divorce that you would not return to playing football, and you did return to it, then a triple divorce takes effect, and your wife becomes unlawful for you until she marries another man. This conditional divorce cannot be revoked or canceled according to the majority. Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah holds that an expiation for an oath (kaffarat yamin (definition)) suffices if divorce was not intended, or one divorce takes effect if it was intended. He also believes that the wife can be taken back if the three divorces are not yet complete, and he considers it possible to revoke a conditional divorce. The preponderant view is that of the majority. There is no breaking of the oath if you intended not to play for a specific period, like a month, and you only played after that period expired; in this case, no divorce takes place. The divorce of an angry person does not take effect if he does not comprehend what he is saying.
