Is it possible to repel the prayers (du'as) of parents against their child, especially if the young man's condition has changed from religious commitment to abandoning prayer and detesting the ذكر الله (remembrance of Allah) after his parents' repeated curses upon him?
The door of repentance is open for a person as long as they are alive and before the sun rises from its west. Allah accepts repentance for all sins, and it is not permissible to despair of Allah's mercy, for that is among the gravest sins. It is good to invite the sinner to repentance and to be kind to them through prayer. Those around them should be gentle in inviting them to guidance with good admonition and righteous companionship. Parents must also not curse their children, for cursing a believer is among the gravest sins.
