And can an impure object, whose contamination is no longer remembered, be considered as having had its physical impurity removed?

We advise you to turn away from whisperings (waswas) and ignore them. Overwhelming pre-dominance of thought (ghalabat al-dhann) is sufficient for the impurity to be considered removed, just as the removal of the impurity's characteristics (color, taste, and smell) is sufficient to rule that its substance has been removed. The water remaining on the spot is pure as long as it has not been altered by impurity, and it is not necessary for the washed area to dry. If you doubt the impurity of something, act upon the original principle, which is purity, and do not rule something impure except with absolute certainty.
