The answer

A sick person is permitted to break their fast in Ramadan if their illness worsens due to fasting, or if their recovery is delayed, or if they experience severe hardship, or if they fear contracting an illness because of it. Dizziness (vertigo) is an excuse to break the fast if it is continuous or recurrent, and there is a fear that it might worsen and lead to fainting or pose a danger to the patient who operates heavy machinery or drives a car. In this case, the person must make up the missed fasts. For a sick person to break their fast, it is sufficient for a trustworthy Muslim doctor, even if female, to inform them that fasting would harm them. It is also sufficient for the doctor to state their predominant opinion (ghalabat al-dhann).
