What is the ruling on marrying a girl who combines good qualities (observing prayers, dhikr, and Quran, honesty, beautiful appearance, and kindness) and bad qualities (watching TV series and listening to songs, attachment to celebrities, stubbornness, and attempting to provoke the suitor), knowing that the suitor has been awaiting official approval for the marriage for over a year, and the marriage contract has not yet been concluded? Is it permissible to perform Istikhara more than once? And how does one know its result? Should the suitor end his relationship with the girl or continue it? Is it permissible to listen to her voice, or the sound of her chanting, or to memorize it, or to look at her or her veiled picture without her knowledge? And is it permissible to offer her a gift?

Do not rush into breaking off the engagement or marrying the girl you mentioned. Instead, take your time and inquire about her from trustworthy individuals. Her negative traits might be temporary and could disappear with advice and guidance. If it becomes clear to you that her situation can be rectified, then proceed, along with performing Istikhara repeatedly. The result of Istikhara manifests in the facilitation or prevention of the matter, not in a feeling of ease or unease. Remember that the girl is a stranger to you until the marriage contract is concluded. Therefore, it is not permissible to converse with her except when necessary and within the bounds of Islamic law. It is not permissible to listen to her singing or to look at her body except for the purpose of engagement. Giving gifts is permissible. If you fear that her situation will not be rectified or that future disputes will arise, then breaking off the engagement is better than a divorce later on.
