The answer

The majority of scholars hold that suckling an adult does not establish a prohibitory relationship (mahramiyya). They interpreted the narrations concerning it as either being a special case related to adoption or as having been abrogated. However, some scholars permitted it out of necessity. The most appropriate approach, when there is a need, is to put the woman's milk in a container for the adult to drink. The Mother of the Believers, Aisha, never suckled anyone herself; rather, she would instruct the daughters of her sisters and brothers to suckle anyone she wished to enter upon her. Meanwhile, the rest of the Prophet's wives (peace be upon him) considered that specific to Salim, the freed slave of Hudhaifa. It is not permissible to disparage the Mother of the Believers, Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), for she is the Mother of the Believers and the wife of the Prophet (peace be upon him) in this world and the Hereafter. The Companions did not object to her stance on suckling out of doubt or suspicion; rather, the disagreement of the other wives of the Prophet (peace be upon him) was a matter of scholarly interpretation (ijtihad).
