"The jurists infer the permissibility of uncovering the face and hands from His Almighty's saying: '…except what is apparent thereof,' and from Ibn Abbas's interpretation of this as referring to the face and hands. Furthermore, Al-Tabari states the consensus of scholars on the permissibility for a woman to uncover her face and hands during prayer, which indicates that they are not considered 'awrah (parts of the body that must be covered). They also infer from the Hadith of Al-Fadl ibn Abbas with the Khath'amiyah woman, and from the Hadith of Asma bint Abi Bakr, which referred to the face and hands, even though this latter Hadith is weak in its chain of narration."
