How can one deal with a husband who is absent from the home for long hours, prefers to stay with his other wife, neglects his second wife and daughter financially, emotionally, and sexually, spends the second wife's money on his other home, and shows no interest in his wife's feelings or her attempts to mend the relationship?
Marital life should be built on affection, love, mercy, and understanding, as Allah Almighty says: "And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy." Regarding the husband staying with the other wife, he is not permitted to stay with her during the first wife's turn if she is present in the house. The wife's salary is her property, and the husband is not allowed to take it without her permission. He is obligated to spend on her and on his other wife. The husband can prevent his wife from working unless she stipulated it in the marriage contract. As for intercourse, justice is not required in it between wives, but the husband should be just between them unless he intends harm, and justice in overnight stays is obligatory. Both spouses are advised to be understanding and forgiving, and the husband is advised to spend on his wife, as Allah Almighty says: "Men are in charge of women by [right of] what Allah has given one over the other and what they spend [for maintenance] from their wealth."
