Must the money taken from the ex-husband after khulʿ be returned?

If the khul' (divorce at the wife's instance) is in exchange for returning the dower (Mahr) to the husband or a portion of it, then what was agreed upon must be returned. The consideration is the real dower that the husband paid, not what was written in the official documents.
