Is it permissible to swear falsely upon the Qur’an to conceal adultery and protect the family from disintegration, given the perpetrator’s repentance and remorse?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Adultery is a great abomination, especially for a married person. However, whoever repents, Allah accepts his repentance, no matter how great his sin, in accordance with the Almighty’s saying: "Say, 'O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.'" (Az-Zumar: 53). If the repentant person is compelled to swear falsely to ward off harm or to achieve a legitimate benefit, we hope that no sin will befall him.
