Is there such a thing as bad luck (everything I do ends badly)?

In the pre-Islamic era (Jahiliyyah), Arabs used to consider certain things as bad omens. Islam abolished this belief and established that everything that occurs in the universe is by Allah's decree and destiny, and this was written fifty thousand years before the creation of the heavens and the earth. Therefore, a Muslim must be content and submit, and beware of ṭīrah (superstitious belief in omens) and pessimism, for they are forbidden acts. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no 'adwa (contagion without Allah's decree), no ṭīrah (superstitious belief in omens), no hammah (pre-Islamic superstitious belief about owls), and no ṣafar (pre-Islamic superstitious belief about the month of Safar)."
