Is it permissible for a congregant to differ with the imam in a jurisprudential school of thought, such as in the funeral prayer where the imam believes in two salutations while the congregant believes in one salutation, and does this contradict the hadith: "Indeed, the Imam was appointed to be followed"?

The majority of scholars hold that the funeral prayer requires one Tasleem (salutation of peace), and this is narrated from six Companions. Al-Shafi'i and the jurists of independent reasoning (Ahl al-Ra'i) are of the view that two Tasleems are recommended, by analogy with other prayers, though one Tasleem is sufficient. If the Imam performs two Tasleems, then one should follow him, in compliance with the Prophet's command to follow the Imam and out of consideration for those scholars who hold this view.
