What is the ruling on preferring a person over Allah and obeying him in disobeying Allah, and how does one repent from that?

Every act of disobedience is a temporary preference for a caprice, a desire, or a person over the love of Allah. The love of Allah must be given precedence over every beloved, and it is impermissible to prefer anyone over Allah. The door of repentance is open.
