What is the ruling on someone who says to himself, "Allah is more beloved to me," and then commits a sin; does he disbelieve by doing so?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Love for Allah Almighty is among the obligatory duties. A sign of its truthfulness is giving precedence to what He loves and obeying Him over the desires of the self. And whoever is ashamed before Allah refrains from disobedience. If the self weakens and falls into sin, one must promptly offer sincere repentance, seek forgiveness, and resolve not to return to it. Allah accepts repentance from His repenting servants. Falling into sin does not indicate disbelief, for disobedient individuals disobey due to the overpowering of desires, not out of a greater love for sin than for Allah.
