What is the ruling on not taking the parents' opinion regarding a job?
A child is not obligated to obey their parents regarding a specific academic major or job, unless they ordered him to seek counsel and he failed to do so. In that case, obedience to them becomes obligatory, as long as it does not involve disobedience [to Allah]. He should strive to please them as much as possible, and his refusal should be respectful, as Allah the Almighty says: "So do not say to them, 'uff,' and do not repel them, but speak to them a noble word."
