Is it permissible for a person to benefit from money or food that was given as charity, whether to needy strangers or relatives such as a brother or sister, and can the one who gave the charity eat from the food that he gave as charity to his family?

The basis for prohibiting the giver of charity from benefiting from their own charity is the Hadith: "Do not buy it back, and do not revert in your charity; for one who reverts in his charity is like a dog that returns to its vomit." This includes retracting some of the charity or the giver consuming from it. Jurists strongly dislike reverting in charity, and some have gone so far as to deem it forbidden. This prohibition encompasses obligatory, vowed, and voluntary charity, whether by taking possession, riding, eating, or drinking, except in certain exceptional cases.
