What animals are forbidden to eat, and what is the ruling on those that are permissible, with evidence and examples?

The animals forbidden to eat are pigs, domestic donkeys, and all predators with fangs, or birds with talons. This is the view of the majority of scholars. Their evidence is the prohibition by the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, of every predator with fangs and every bird with talons. As for what is permissible, it is everything other than the aforementioned forbidden things.
