Is it permissible to undergo cosmetic surgery to improve one's external appearance for someone who feels ashamed of their creation and faces people's ridicule?
Enhancement procedures are of two types: The first is that which is for the removal of a congenital defect or one resulting from an accident, and there is no harm in this. The second is excessive beautification to increase beauty, not to remove a defect, and this is forbidden because it is an alteration of Allah's creation and from the work of Satan, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Allah has cursed the women who tattoo and those who have themselves tattooed, and the women who pluck their eyebrows and those who have theirs plucked, and the women who make spaces between their teeth for beauty, altering the creation of Allah." If the creation is disfigured to an unusual degree, and the disfigurement can be removed without harm, then there is no harm in that, while ensuring that the disfigurement is real and clear.
