Is a wife considered at fault if she advises her husband with strong words to shake him and awaken his conscience, yet gently and sincerely? And does this warrant her being insulted and forsaken for ten days?

If a wife addresses her husband gently and not with abusive language, she is not in error. Mutual advice between spouses should be based on compassion and aim for reform.

If a husband curses his wife, he has committed a wrong, for cursing is not the way of a believer. Some scholars have considered a husband cursing his wife as a valid reason for seeking divorce, but this does not mean encouraging the wife to seek divorce.

As for a husband abandoning his wife, there are regulations for this, including that it must be due to her defiance (nushooz) and preceded by admonition. If a husband wrongs his wife, her patience with him and her prayer for his righteousness are better than her praying against him.
